Dr. Chavez (Lik) was concerned with the suffering of those around her from a young age. She recognized the therapeutic effect of caring, kindness, and listening but always desired to be able to offer more.
As a young person she volunteered and worked for many organizations focused on alleviating human suffering. She found her calling, however, when she was introduced to Naturopathic Medicine.
She first learned of Naturopathic Medicine after a routine visit to doctor’s office as an undergraduate. In this visit she was asked detailed questions about diet, lifestyle, personal relationships, and genetic risk factors followed by extensive explanations of recommended interventions. This experience inspired her to switch the focus of her undergraduate studies to pre med in preparation to become a naturopath herself.
Dr. Chavez (Lik) graduated from National College of Natural Medicine in 2007 with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and Certificate in Homeopathy. She joined the staff at Cancer Treatment Centers of America Midwestern Regional Medical Center in 2009 after completing a two-year residency focused on oncology at that same institute. During this time her clinical focus was on using safe, research-based natural interventions to reduce the side effects of conventional cancer treatments, increase the effectiveness of those therapies, and to improve the patients’ health through and after cancer care. She also recommended natural substances shown to have anticancer and immune stimulating effects.
Working with cancer patients reinforced Dr. Chavez’s (Lik’s) commitment to prevention of cancer and other chronic diseases. While at Cancer Treatment Centers, she supervised weight management training classes and a wellness clinic for fellow employees. In 2011, she joined the Raby Institute for Integrative Medicine at Northwestern to focus on preventative medicine as well as to continue her work supporting cancer patients during and after treatment.
Dr. Chavez (Lik) maintains her license as a Naturopathic Doctor through the Bureau of Naturopathic Medicine in the State of California. She is certified as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners and is a candidate fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology.
